Sunder, a 14-year-old elephant, was given as a "gift" to the Jyotiba temple in Kolhapur, India, where he spent six years in a dark shed. PETA India's undercover investigation shows that a mahout (handler) violently beat him with a thick wooden pole. The footage also reveals that Sunder, who looks malnourished, is chained by two legs. He writhes in pain and struggles to stand as the mahout strikes him repeatedly with the pole.

Although the government has called for Sunder's transferral to a sanctuary, he is still suffering, as local officials have not yet released him.

PETA India is fighting hard to rescue him and needs help from compassionate people like you.

Please make a donation today to help end Sunder's abuse and to support all of PETA India's life-saving work for elephants.

PETA offers this donation form as a service to PETA India. Your entire donation will be directed to PETA India to help animals like Sunder.

I am a UK taxpayer. Please treat this donation, all future donations and all donations I have made to PETA Foundation in the last four years as Gift Aid donations until further notice.

I confirm I have paid or will pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax for each tax year (6 April to 5 April) that is at least equal to the amount of tax that all the charities or Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) that I donate to will reclaim on my gifts for that tax year. I understand that other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify. I understand the charity will reclaim 28p of tax on every £1 that I gave up to 5 April 2008 and will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give on or after 6 April 2008.
