Goats Violently Abused, Left to Die – Urge Madewell to Ban Cashmere

A PETA Asia investigation into the cashmere industry in China and Mongolia – the world's top cashmere exporters – reveals extreme cruelty to and violent killing of cashmere goats.

Together, China and Mongolia produce 90 per cent of the world's cashmere. Goats suffered on every single farm that the eyewitnesses visited in these countries.

Goats screamed in pain and fear as workers tore their hair out. Later, their throats were slit in abattoirs and they were left to die in agony.

In light of this cruelty, many brands – such as ASOS – have already made the compassionate decision to ban cashmere. Now, we need to urge Madewell to ban the cruelly obtained material, too.

Take Action Now

China has no penalties for abusing animals on cashmere farms, and the situation in Mongolia appears to be much the same. The best way to help these goats is to refuse to support the cruel cashmere industry, by never buying anything made of cashmere.

Warm, stylish, animal-friendly materials are widely available, so you can leave goats' hair and other animal-derived materials like wool and fur where they belong: on the animals.

No matter where it comes from or what assurances companies give, cashmere is a product of cruelty to goats, which is rampant in the industry. And when they stop being profitable to the farmers, the goats are slaughtered.

Please send a message asking Madewell to ban cashmere.
