I was horrified to learn that experimenters at the University of Aberdeen conducted 15,269 procedures on animals in 2015, including 12,034 on mice, 2,306 on fish, 730 on rats, 26 on birds, and 173 on other animals.

Every one of these animals was a unique individual with the capacity to feel pain and fear, and they undoubtedly suffered tremendously during the procedures performed on them at the University of Aberdeen.

A range of non-animal alternatives are available, including in vitro methods using human cells and tissues as well as advanced computer-modelling techniques. Not only are these more humane than tests on animals, they're also more reliable and precise and can be more cost-effective.

As one of the top universities in the UK, the University of Aberdeen has a responsibility to lead the way in ethical research. I therefore urge you to move away from inflicting pain and suffering on animals and to invest more in modern, pioneering, animal-free research methods.
