I was horrified to learn that experimenters at Queen's University Belfast conducted 11,704 procedures on animals in 2017, including 10,590 on mice, 834 on rats, 46 on rabbits, 9 on frogs, and 225 on other animals.

Every one of these animals was a unique individual with the capacity to feel pain and fear, and they undoubtedly suffered tremendously during the procedures performed on them at the Queen's University Belfast.

A range of non-animal alternatives are available, including in vitro methods using human cells and tissues as well as advanced computer-modelling techniques. Not only are these more humane than tests on animals, they're also more reliable and precise and can be more cost-effective.

As one of the top universities in the UK, Queen's University Belfast has a responsibility to lead the way in ethical research. I therefore urge you to move away from inflicting pain and suffering on animals and to invest more in modern, pioneering, animal-free research methods.
