I was horrified to learn that experimenters at Queen Mary, University of London conducted 40,421 procedures on animals in 2017, including 34,591 on mice, 5,338 on fish, 482 on rats and 10 on birds.

Every one of these animals was a unique individual with the capacity to feel pain and fear, and they undoubtedly suffered tremendously during the procedures performed on them at the Queen Mary, University of London.

A range of non-animal alternatives are available, including in vitro methods using human cells and tissues as well as advanced computer-modelling techniques. Not only are these more humane than tests on animals, they're also more reliable and precise and can be more cost-effective.

As one of the top universities in the UK, Queen Mary University has a responsibility to lead the way in ethical research. I therefore urge you to move away from inflicting pain and suffering on animals and to invest more in modern, pioneering, animal-free research methods.
