Ask Chicken Shops to Offer Vegan Nuggets

Chickens and other animals killed for chicken shop meals need our help now. Whether you eat at chicken shops or not, there’s no denying they’re big business and that having vegan options available from these chains will make it easier to find tasty, animal-friendly food on the go. And it could encourage meat-eaters – many of whom have never set foot in a vegan restaurant – to try out plant-based foods.

We think it’s time these businesses joined the vegan revolution, don’t you? When you ask, they listen! Together, we’ve urged most of the top fast-food chains to offer vegan options – including McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, Subway, Papa Johns, and Nando’s. Back in 2018, 20,000 of you urged Greggs to add a vegan sausage roll to its menu – and now, this iconic option is available at your local branch. Let’s use our power once again to urge the businesses listed below to offer vegan chicken.

Mainstream Brands Need Vegan Support

While it’s fantastic to support vegan business – and we do encourage this – buying the plant-based options available in non-vegan restaurants encourages companies to extend their vegan range. As a result, vegan eating becomes more accessible and appealing to new audiences.

Every time we choose a protein-packed vegan burger or portion of nuggets instead of a piece of chicken flesh, we’re voting with our wallets for more animal-friendly options. And as the production of vegan chicken emits 20% to 50% less greenhouse gas than chicken flesh, it’s more sustainable, too.

Plant-Based Food Is for Everyone

The vegan food business is booming: in 2020, KFC sold over a million vegan chicken burgers in the UK. Introducing vegan chicken options would benefit chicken shops, their customers, the environment, and (most importantly) the birds.

Chickens Deserve to Live

Chickens are smart, social, and sensitive animals – did you know they can recognise up to 100 faces?

Those raised for their flesh on farms are bred to grow so large that their legs often collapse under their own body weight. Have you ever noticed black marks on dead birds in supermarkets? That’s the direct result of the ammonia burns chickens get from collapsing and lying in their own waste on farms – which aren’t cleaned until all the birds are sent to the abattoir.

Once the chickens arrive at the abattoir, they’re shackled upside down, their throats are slit, and they’re scalded in defeathering tanks – sometimes while still conscious.
