Tell UGG You Want Sheep-Free Shoes!

Following persistent advocacy from PETA US and its supporters, UGG took a big step in 2024 by releasing its first-ever vegan UGG boots. However, the brand still uses the fleece and skin of sheep who were violently killed in the wool industry. UGGs are often made of sheepskin, meaning each boot is made from the actual skin of an individual animal. Urge the company to make the compassionate choice to ditch all wool and shearling from its line.

UGGs and Cruelty to Sheep

If you wear UGGs, you have to wonder: were the sheep you’re wearing crudely castrated? Did workers cut off their tails?

Were they torn away from their mothers when they were just babies?

Were they stamped on? Punched in the face? Kicked over and over again?

Were they kept in an area that was so crowded they couldn’t even move? Were they violently slaughtered?

Sheep Are Feeling, Thinking Individuals

Sheep are gentle, sensitive animals who are emotionally complex and highly intelligent. They care for each other and can recognise their friends’ faces, even if they’ve been separated for years. Yet the wool industry exploits them as if they were nothing more than wool-producing machines.

Vegan UGGs

UGG offers vegan shoes, which are kind to animals and the planet, in its Plant Power Collection and a collaboration with Collina Strada. They are crafted from materials including recycled polyester microfibre and vegan leather derived from corn. This represents a positive stride for animals and is further proof that the future of fashion is vegan. There’s no reason to continue selling sheep’s skin when a kinder option is available.
