Urge the Scottish and Welsh Governments to Ban Glue Traps

Please help get glue traps banned in Scotland and Wales! These indiscriminate killers are one of the cruellest methods of rodent control. Any animal caught in these traps will likely die of hunger, dehydration, or exposure after days of prolonged suffering.

In April 2022, England took an important step forward for animals when the Glue Traps (Offences) Bill became law. When it takes effect, a licensing system will prevent the public from using glue traps to kill rodents and those who break the law will face a fine or possibly prison time. The Scottish and Welsh governments have said they will bring forward similar legislation, yet no meaningful action has been taken. Now is the time.

The Cruellest Method of Rodent Control

Glue traps are cruel, indiscriminate killers. They cause a prolonged, terrifying, and painful death for rats and mice, birds, frogs, hedgehogs, and even cats. Animals may suffocate when their noses and mouths become stuck in the glue, struggle to the point of exhaustion trying to free themselves, or even chew through their own legs in a desperate bid for freedom and end up dying of blood loss.

Governments Must Act Now

England has passed the Glue Traps (Offences) Act, banning the public from using these cruel killing devices to control rodents. The ban will come into effect in England once the accompanying licensing system has been created in April 2024.

It’s time Scotland and Wales caught up and introduced a ban, too.
